I'm graduating from veterinary school this May, and inevitably my Next Big Thing is having children. However, I'm worried how this will work with endurance. I have an up and running 9 year old who is competing very well now, and a just-started coming four year old who will be doing his first rides in the next few years. I understand that we will make it work and figure out a way to do it, but is there anyone out there who continued to compete through pregnancies and/or early babyhood?
I didn't ride at all while pregnant, but started back almost immediately afterwards. Pick out a good neice or a teen you trust who will come to the rides and be the "camping nanny". Worked great for us. My kids were raised at rides and loved it. I have plenty of home movies of them playing at ridecamps or Bill telling them, "See that flagging? That's where mama is gonna come out of the woods". :-)) It's worth a little break in your horse's career to have a child. That 6 or 9 months off in the long run is nothing.
