EHV-1 vaccines

Read recent notes about this herpes virus that is transmitted by the respiratory tract and the preventitive concerns most about staying clear which is still needed. Saw nothing about the vaccines so researched. Got a great hit at UCD vet. There is a vaccine that has benefits if yours horse come into contact. Here is bottom line and link to detailed article.

Commercially available vaccines currently include two single-component inactivated vaccines (Pneumabort K and Prodigy) marketed for the prevention of EHV-1-induced abortion in pregnant mares; several multicomponent inactivated vaccines (Prestige, Calvenza, Innovator); and one MLV vaccine (Rhinomune) marketed for prevention of respiratory disease induced by EHV-1 and EHV-4. All are administered by intramuscular injection. Each of these vaccines induce some but not all of the desired components of the immune response. None induces sterile immunity or complete protection from clinical disease. The best that can be hoped for is a reduction in the severity of clinical signs and in the amount of EHV-1 shed by vaccinated horses that do become infected, which in turn may reduce the incidence of disease within the herd or group.

I could not find a way to comment directly where the EHV-1 discussion notes were. Can someone please clue me in as to comment more directly? Appreciate any guidance.

Hello ya all,

I just joined and want to start riding endurance seriously. Go to the meets not only 2 ride but to meet folks into one of my favorite sport. The other is hang gliding. I have 5 equine. 2 are for sale which will go into a truck and trailer which I currently do not own. Looking for folks near Asheville, NC area to share rides with to events. I would only take one. Do you have room for one in your trailer? and want to share expenses. Do you need a horse to ride. I can not ride them all !! hope to meet and get involved somehow. Blessings Marc......
