Endurance Riders

Endurance and Long Distance Equine Disciplines

This is the first time in 50 years of riding that I have ever sustained broken bones from falling off a horse. Jockeys seem to bounce back, but perhaps because of my age I am still very fragile and aching after 3 weeks! Doctors advice gives me at least 2 - 3 months recovery. Any good suggestions on how to get myself riding fit as soon as possible?

When stormer and I had the worst crash ever. I to was left with 7 broken ribs in the back, a punctured lung and smashed collar bone that took several operation to fix. But the best advice I can give you is streach simple easy streaching. vitamins and the old advice SIT STAY HEAL. not letting your body mend will do you no favores in the long haul. and buy a vest I bought a tippary riding vest on e-bay. its comfortable plus rated. remember jockies ride for 2-3 minutes we ride for hours. Walk outside get your breath back. my ribes healed really wrong due to my punctured lung. so inhaul exhaul alot deeply. I know they say dont wrap ribs, pish posh!! wrap them during the day release them at nite. or the other way. do not wrap them 24 seven. this would only hurt the lungs. welcome to the broken bone club.

Thanks for your detailed info - much appreciated, though I have in fact now recovered some time ago. I also did quite a lot of swimming which I found helpful. Since then have ridden over 1500 miles to the end of the Great Wall of China, and am about to start off again across the Gobi,.
