Owyhee Fandango 2009

Thanks to Roxi Welling and Cody Boysen hauling and caring for my horse across hmmm what? 5 states? I got the opportunity to go to the Owyhee Fandango ride in Idaho. What a thrill!! I decided that Magic and I were ready for our second attempt at a 100. I arrived in Boise Airport on Thursday morning and Roxi picked me up to bring me about two hours out to ridecamp. MnDra I, 2009

Minnesota riding season began this last weekend. I felt very confident going into this ride, knowing I had already done a hard 55 at Chicken Chase. I figured MnDra I would be a breeze, except for the dreaded SAND!! Magic felt awesome going out in the morning so I just let her open up her big trot and off we went. Chicken Chase 2009

Well on a whim I decided to go to Chicken Chase. This ride is a 15 hour drive from us. After talking to my good friend Roxi I just couldn't let this ride go un-done :) She had a horse for me to ride so I got my junior (who isn't a junior anymore, she's now 16) to ride Magic. I've been putting a lot of time into conditioning Magic and I really felt confident she would do well. 4/2/09

Well this MN winter just keeps on keepin on...no end in site and its already April. I've been able to ride some but not nearly as much as years past :( Even so, I am planning to go to Chicken Chase April 17 18 19. I really think Magic will be fine, she has been doing this long enough now that as long as I ride slow and smart we will finally have our 1000 AERC Endurance miles, whoo hooo!! My 100 Mile Experience - Run for the Ridge, Sept. 20, 2008

It's always been my goal to get Magic to complete a 100. Our first attempt was not successful unfortunately. I think we were ready but I'm afraid I didn't ride her to her potential. I tried to "save" too much horse by riding significanlty slower than I do normally. We ended up riding 95% at a trot instead of varying her gait. I think this was the overall cause of our pull.
