Owyhee Fandango 2009

Posted on May 26, 2009 at 11:29am 1 Comment

Thanks to Roxi Welling and Cody Boysen hauling and caring for my horse across hmmm what? 5 states? I got the opportunity to go to the Owyhee Fandango ride in Idaho. What a thrill!! I decided that Magic and I were ready for our second attempt at a 100. I arrived in Boise Airport on Thursday morning and Roxi picked me up to bring me about two hours out to ridecamp. Ridecamp is at Steph and John Teeters', from endurance.net, place. What a cool little ranch they have. They also live next door to… Continue

MnDra I, 2009

Posted on May 4, 2009 at 12:10pm 0 Comments

Minnesota riding season began this last weekend. I felt very confident going into this ride, knowing I had already done a hard 55 at Chicken Chase. I figured MnDra I would be a breeze, except for the dreaded SAND!! Magic felt awesome going out in the morning so I just let her open up her big trot and off we went. We started out mid pack and worked our way through the lead riders and off we went. By the end of the 15 mile loop a friend of mine Char came up on me and we rode pretty much the rest… Continue

Chicken Chase 2009

Well on a whim I decided to go to Chicken Chase. This ride is a 15 hour drive from us. After talking to my good friend Roxi I just couldn't let this ride go un-done :) She had a horse for me to ride so I got my junior (who isn't a junior anymore, she's now 16) to ride Magic. I've been putting a lot of time into conditioning Magic and I really felt confident she would do well. After arriving on Thursday night around 9pm we quickly set up, putting Magic on her Hi Tie with lots of hay and water… Continue

Well this MN winter just keeps on keepin on...no end in site and its already April. I've been able to ride some but not nearly as much as years past :( Even so, I am planning to go to Chicken Chase April 17 18 19. I really think Magic will be fine, she has been doing this long enough now that as long as I ride slow and smart we will finally have our 1000 AERC Endurance miles, whoo hooo!! We got 18" of snow this week so plans are sketchy about how much riding I will get in from now until then. I… Continue

My 100 Mile Experience - Run for the Ridge, Sept. 20, 2008

Posted on November 16, 2008 at 10:47am 0 Comments

It's always been my goal to get Magic to complete a 100. Our first attempt was not successful unfortunately. I think we were ready but I'm afraid I didn't ride her to her potential. I tried to "save" too much horse by riding significanlty slower than I do normally. We ended up riding 95% at a trot instead of varying her gait. I think this was the overall cause of our pull. Her metabolics were great thoughtout the day, she pulsed down each check within a few minutes and without removing the…

Likewise, I kept looking for you, but to no avail. I left early Sun AM. A long drive it was. But looking forward to going down next year.

That is Pilgrim and I out on the Bighorn 50 in 2007. He was a hell of a horse, I cried when I lost him last year, but the memories of himm will always be treasured.

Hi Angie, Wintering well, been riding since late Jan. I am taking my two 7 yr olds down to Chicken Chase in Indiana in mid April to do 50s on them. Several other people are going down from UMECRA, I want to get started earlier than Run for the Border, since I can not come MnDRA due to work that weekend. Have you been able to get in the saddle much up there in the hinterlands?????
