Hi Carrie, You might be right, but you also do have a chance to let this heal. Try following this protocol to the letter: The UC Davis tendon rehab: All Flat! No Hills! Period. 6 to 8 weeks total rest in a 20 x 40 flat paddock and hand walking 20…

Carrie, I know the low feeling you're talking about, probably everyone on this list has hit some bump in the road--for us it was a check ligament after our first LD, we've done 1310 miles now, also with other time off for this and that. Get with a v…

I'm reading this a bit late, but just want to say that a friend's horse had a bowed tendon and is back doing endurance riding. It's not the end, just a bump.

I'm sure you can find videos on youtube showing how to do that. It just takes practice! Good luck with the injury rehab.

How long does she have to wear that? I'm soo paranoid about wrapping after a friend of mine stretched elastic bandage too hard on her horse when we were kids and almost ruined his leg. I am pretty useless on wrapping but found that professional's ch…

Bowed Tendon Day 6- Adventures in re-wrapping the leg

I was reviewing my vet bill from the ultrasound and bowed tendon exam and treatment and noting with some chagrin that I was charged $50.00 just for the sweat bandage wrap the vet tech performed on my mare's leg. However, after taking off that bandage today, and applying my own non-techie version of a standing bandage, I've changed my mind considerably.

First, I had a heck of a time getting the sweat bandage off, even. At first I tried cutting it off, but fugetabutit. Too thick. Scissors too dul… Continue

Day 4 of the Healing Process

Dear Riding Friends,

I need a cyber-hug! Or a Hallmark card and flowers, or something. I'm just pathetic, I'm so blue. When I went out to see Jazzy today, to give her the bute dosage for her bowed tendon, she looked so depressed that I wanted to cry. Maybe I'm just projecting my own depression on her, but maybe not. She wouldn't eat her carrots, but maybe that's because the bute left a bad taste in her mouth. Since I got home I've been drowning my sorrows in salt water taffy and anchovies. That… Continue

Buzz Kill: Hallowed Weenie May be the End of Our Endurance Career

It was not the ride I'd envisioned, to say the least. It was the final ride for our Rookie Horse/Rookie Rider eligibility year, and I believe that we were leading the two other elegible rookie horse/riders by 10 or more points. How exciting!
We'd started this year at the ToughSucker ride with our first LD, and were ending it at HallowedWeenies by doing two 55's back-to-back for the first time. I was dreaming of doing the Tevis Cup in 3 years. I'm in my early 50's, so I feel blessed to be healthy… Continue

That was at Little Jack's Creek about 10 miles from the Jack's Creek ride.
Yesterday was good but challenging at times. Pretty icy. We had fun, though.

Did it look like we were on the edge? We werent'. I am too chicken.
The one where it is just me is just an optical illusion. I am not really as close and leaning over as it looks.
