Howdy, I forgot to mention tying them up someplace--a sturdy post or tree. Nothing like many hours at the patience tree to get them realizing who's boss-the one who unties them of course. If they aren't respectful when you do untie them, tie them back up for a few more hours. You want to tie them pretty short so they don't tangle or have too much fun.
Sounds like you've got your work cut out for you with those spoiled babies. It's a bummer that they got to be even that age & not have good manners. Best to try to nip that stuff in the bud & get bossy yourself. :o) One place to start is with--dare I say--a chain under the chin for leading. I usually just pop them in the chest with the end of a cotton lead for some space rules, or for getting ahead, but if that isn't phasing them, a short piece of smallish pvc pipe ('cuz it's noisy) or a dressage whip if they really just aren't getting it. Good luck & keep me posted. Oh, & you can use that any of stuff to guard your space anytime you're around them--even if they are loose.
I don't know that you'd call rehabing him. He was at ground 0 on training and care...not *abused* but he'd been pretty hungry in winters. He's doing very well. Got his first shoes this week. Hope to do Trace Tribute with him in April.
VV Classic is one of the groups here. You can find it on the main page. John actually put on a virtual endurance ride from Dec 25-Jan 8. It's motivation to get out & ride. We had to fill out a virtual vet card after each ride. Also had to mark our path on Google Earth & have a link to it posted. It was pretty fun--check into it, sounds like they'll be doing it again. Always wanted to move west. Timing was right, so here we are. The trail riding I can do from home is amazing! In MI things were getting so built up we were reduced to a dirt road block. (part of it will probably be paved soon.) So how'd you get from NC to TN?
Howdy, I didn't get started 'til '98, so I missed ya there. I've got 2 home grown mules that I e-ride right now. One more still in MI that I hope to start in the next year or 2. Is your mule gaited?
Not so much "rehabbed" as started from scratch. He was 7 year old stallion, and barely halter broke. A little ribby then, but in line for starvation come winter since nobody had any intention of feeding them. I got himJuly 13 and he's coming along very well. :-))
