About Me:
I'm a vet student in my third year of school, and just got my most recent endurance prospect in October. He's a 7 year old NSH cross with training in jumping and dressage and is loving the trail. My newbie rider husband now has my original endurance prospect Cricket, as he and I never really "clicked" as a team. The two of them are doing well, and all four of us will be hitting the trails full-force in 2009!

Cricket's Progress

Cricket and I have been having a lot of fun getting to know eachother these past few weeks. However, I noticed that recently he'd started acting really cinchy when I tighten the girth and kept wanting to move off when I went to mount. Also, he'd been doing some head tossing while we were riding. I thought maybe he was annoyed that I wanted to keep contact on his mouth so I tried riding in a rope halter a few times. While he did just fine with this, it didn't really solve our problem. (The traine… Continue

Cricket's Home!

I moved Cricket to his new barn on Sunday between snow storms. It was a pretty big gamble with the roads, but luckily, they were clear and despite some strong winds, we made it back safely. He settled in immediately, which surprised me since I had so many people telling me he'd be a maniac for a couple weeks whenever we went anywhere new. I really think having him turned out and on grass hay again is making a huge difference, but he took the whole move in such stride it's almost as if he knew he… Continue

First good ride!

I kind of mentioned a little about the whole thing in my "about me", but I'll probably change that soon to reflect the new and improved Cricket. I'll just tell the whole story. I'm fairly new to endurance, and so far have only volunteered at rides and done a few conditioning rides on friends' horses during the summer. I love everything about the sport so far, and am looking forward to finally getting to actually participate. I've ridden consistently since I was twelve, and took seven years of we… Continue

Hi Elly, I did a few rides last year so we may have met if you were helping the vet. If you're ever out at the Eagle foothills to ride give me a shout as I board out there. The ice is finally melting so I'm off to ride!

My dad went to Wash State vet school, but ended up becoming an airline pilot instead of a vet!

Good luck to you!!

Hi Elly,
I just joined also. My husband barefoot trims 2 Belgians. They are incrediable animals. I have never been around Belgians before. Both of them are saddle trained and I have been invited to ride them some time. They are so....big. Good luck with your other boy. Linda
