That is not surprising that your daughter will take a step back. That seems to happen to some of my students. They are amazed that long rides are not as exciting at the end of the ride as they thought it would be. They get sore in places they never thought they had. They get very hungry - in spite of the preparation. I'd love to her why your daughter wants to sit it out for a bit.
