I've been riding since about 1965. Moved to Tevis country in 1999, then was given an Arab a few years later. Hey Kathy,
How is yout neck of the woods ? You safe from the fires? Is Dan's place ok? Gene had to work the Yucaipa Fires yesterday into this morning. He got home tired as heck. Now he's off again to help out. I guess some opportunists will sneak back into an evacuated area and loot homes!!! So terrible. He smelled like a BBQ Pit when he came home... yuck. Tell Sonny Diva missed him at Tevis. I am having a new shoer come out tomorrow, and we'll see what we can do. Diva's right hind was all chunked-up from loosing her shoe . I hope by the next shoing all those nail holes from my last shoer will be gone. We'll take care!!

Hello Kathy,
Well I submitted my Tevis entry, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that no more mishaps etc. come my way. Diva is fine and full of Beans. It's been hard for me to do any endurance rides due to the kids in FFA and their schedules :>) But I have been getting her out on conditioning rides with Gene and Skylar. Bee asked her dad to ride her horse Star the other day and he was amazed at how that mare can trot. He said she's a trotting machine, and he really enjoyed riding her, but he said that Star is Bee's horse so he wont ride her in competitions, he'll leave that up to Bee. I'm thinking I'll be able to get 2 endurance rides in prior to Tevis 3 if I'm lucky. Man I feel like I'm constantly running in circles from one FFA even to another..LOL You Take care of Mr. Sonny and see you at Tevis !!

We have had rain, rain, snow, rain and more rain (:>), so no riding, yet. I'll be so appreciative of being able to ride when it finally happens. I sure hope to be ready for Tevis this year, even have a back-up horse offered, but you never know what the Tevis gremlins have in store, so I don't get too confident about it. That skinned knee thing is what pulled Tara from Tevis in '07. The horse, Tico, nearly cut thru to the tendons with just one little slip. I'm glad Diva was okay.

It is amazing how stupid people can act around horses, isn't it! Glad you were able to get out and ride, without any injuries.

Hello Kathy,
I'll tell Brianna *Bee* that you said she's awesome. She is such a trooper out on trail. She never complains, and loves to go and go. I sure wish I had her abundance of energy. I am sorry to hear you have been plagued with bad luck. Diva had run into her stall door back in Nov. and ended up with a Hematoma. I let it drain on it's own, and it healed nicely. Then Two days before Christmas my daughter and I went out for a conditioning ride and as we crossed a main road we had to trot as a car was turning into us. I got just onto the sidewalk edge and a dog in the yard near the crosswalk jumped out of nowhere at Diva's head and she spooked and tripped and ended up on her knees. She skinned her knees good and her right one swelled some. So she basically had Nov/Dec. off. We now have had lots of rain fall. Last week Gene, Brianna and I went out in our oilskin coats and had people swerving their cars into puddles to splash the horses. Thanks God the horses were wet enough it didn't faze them. I was so mad that people would do something like that with a little girl on a horse. But we got the last laugh as we were headed home one guy who drove past us several times was pulled over with his engine bogged down. We went right past him all smiles as his buddies had to push him down the road. Serves him right !! Hopefully we will have a good spring and get some decent riding weather. Will you be doing Tevis this year to ? I am gearing for it . Take care and we need to get the husbands out on a ride together, we can crew for them :>)

hello there Kathy,
hows the riding and your awesome horse Sonny ?? We have been hit with so much wind or rain sometimes both, it's been a pain trying to get a decent ride in. Hope the weather has been better for you . Take care,
Renee & Diva

Dear Kathy: Thanks for your comment on the seriously low storage in Folsom Lake. It is currently at 22%. We desperately need a sustained gentle rain (so that it soaks in) for about a week; and we need the precipitation to fall as snow in the Sierras so that the moisture is stored for a spring runoff into our reservoirs. Besides being a rider, I am also a hydrogeologist. With appreciation from Bob Sydnor

Yes, I met Dovie when I stayed at her place last March. She is a very generous hostess. I don't live anywhere near, as I'm about 10 miles north of Auburn. D'arcy is about 40 miles south of Auburn. I am available to ride on the 2nd and 3rd, but I have an early afternoon commitment on the 3rd so any riding I do will have to start by 9am and end by 12:30 or 1PM at the latest, which is enough time to get in a good canyon ride from Auburn. A couple of friends "may" be able to bring 2 extra horses (depends on your/their schedule) and I have room for 1 extra in my trailer, but that's only 3. If it can work out are all of you wanting to go for a ride? If there aren't enough horses for all, would no one ride or would only 2 or 3 ride? Does D'arcy have enough horses and transportation for another couple riders? Not all horses are suitable for canyon rides due to narrow, steep trails. If D'arcy has horses available, but not suitable for the canyon, then maybe the ride location may need to change to more moderate terrain.

Depending on when you're traveling and what you are doing with D'arcy, it might work out. So I'd say check with your companions, check with D'arcy and then let me know so I can check with my riding buddies to see if they are available to bring extra horses too.

Hi Kathy
Our group of 5 females is staying with Dovie Pickering in Reno from 25-28 Feb. I don't know WHAT she's got planned! Do you know Dovie?
From 28 Feb - 1 Mar we will be at Circus Circus for the Convention. On 2-3 Mar we are going to D'Arcy's place. I don't know where you are in relation to these ladies, and I have no idea what we will be doing, but we would certainly love to ride part of the trail if at all possible!
