- I live in West Wales, where I run a Welsh Section B pony stud www.cwrtycadno.com.
I used to compete a lot in endurance, and won a few races, but time and other committments - see the Long Horse Ride below - mean I no longer have time. In the past I have represented Wales and was selected for the British Intermediate team - unfortunately my little arab stallion injured his back just before the international event!
I am currently organising/participating in an endurance ride with a difference - a horseride from Beijing to London between the Olympics! See my website below.

We used these adjustable saddles on the first section of the Long Horse Ride on unfit horses we had not seen before, and rode them for about 8 hours a day. It was easy to adjust the saddles to the horses' shapes, we had NO problems with them, and they were extremely comfortable to ride in.

I am currently organising/participating in The Long Horse Ride from Beijing to London between the Olympics.www.thelonghorseride.com. The ride is in partnership with the Chinese Equestrian Association www.horse.org.cn and in China is called the Sino-British International Friendship Ride. It is also supported by EnduranceGB and helped by the British Equestrian Federation - see their website www.bef.co.uk for current article.
We successfully completed the first leg of the ride in October 2008, riding from Laolongtou, where the Great Wall reaches the sea, to Badaling Great Wall in Beijing district. The second stage of the ride will start from the Guangting reservoir on the weekend of April 12th 2009, to coincide with the Guangting Long Distance Ride, which I believe has FEI status. It will then continue roughly along the course of the Ming Great Wall to the other end at Jiayuguan, arriving by early August.
We will be using Chinese horses for this stage, probably Mongolian or Shandan.
The ride aims partly to carry a message of goodwill from Beijing to London in their Olympic years, partly to raise money for disadvantaged children worldwide through our designated charity www.schoolchildrenforchildren.co.uk
We are mainly funding the ride by making one or two paying places at a time open to riders who will also be expected to raise some money for charity.

A Salutary Tale
Counting down till Thursday, which is when I fly back to China to continue with the Long Horse Ride. Wutzala of the Chinese Equestrian Association told me he was going to organise a press conference and party for the weekend, and I assume we will travel back to Guyuan (where I fell off and we left the horses) at the beginning of next week.
