VV DoIt Again - Top Ten Finish!

Ok, so don't ask how many participated, it's still Top Ten! So now I think I have it down, but I'd still love to have the upgraded gps so I could use MotionBased to automatically plot my rides and all the data, so COOL! I'm a gadget freak...

Now, bring on the MarchMadness Very Virtual Ride!

To be continued....

The Trail of the Amazing Lingerie Bird

On the sunniest day of the year thus far, Fiddle and I went with a bunch of Backcountry Horse friends for a leisurely stroll up in the hills above Fall City, WA.

We saw herons, cormorants, gulls, and lots of woodland birds as well...but we never saw the unusual Lingerie Bird, which apparently lives in the woods beside the trail.

We did see plenty of nesting material, however:…

Cricket's Progress

Cricket and I have been having a lot of fun getting to know eachother these past few weeks. However, I noticed that recently he'd started acting really cinchy when I tighten the girth and kept wanting to move off when I went to mount. Also, he'd been doing some head tossing while we were riding. I thought maybe he was annoyed that I wanted to keep contact on his mouth so I tried riding in a rope halter a few times. While he did just fine with this, it didn't really solve our problem. (The… Continue

On a Wing and a Prayer

VV DIA-Sunday

So, the last 2 days have spoiled me. Temps in the low 40's & sunny. Today, low 30's, cloudy & breezy. What a difference.

The snow stayed crunchier, thus, not as good for moving out at all. I figured, if we weren't going to cover lots of ground today, we'd cover the technical stuff instead.

Today's trail:

The Rio/Henry/4 Beer Trail from Val's

Since it was a conglomeration of trails, I've dubbed it the "4 Beer Trail" because that's how many we had! Maybe I'll get the turtle for this one, since we had to stop to open beers, stop to pee, stop to negotiate with the little old lady that chased us down in her car to tell us that all the trails were "private" and we weren't allowed to ride them, yup, I'm a magnet for getting us in trouble, but we charmed our way out. But we did get a couple good gallops into the mix. So here it is, all…

VV DIA-Saturday

Today I rode over & picked a friend to ride with. Laura rode her QH, Corona, for the first time in a few months. Even with the time off, he bahaved quite well. (He's been known not to :o))

Wildlif checklist: Antelope- a herd, playing

An Eagle watching us ride by from his perch. He did fly off after we passed.

Suprisingly, no mule deer today.

Today's trail:…

VV DIA--Friday

Noodle & I went investigating across the road. Searching for what looked like a trail down a ridge on google earth. It wasn't. However we did enjoy going all over the top over there. Lots of mule deer to watch & a few white tails. I can finally tell the difference. :o) (Only have white tails in MI.)

Short story shorter (some folks just showed up for a visit), here's todays trail:…

VV Do It Again - Virtual Endurance

Ok, let's try this. The hard part is not riding the miles....it's not calculating mileage, got a gps....it's not plotting my trail on Google Earth....it's figuring out how to attach the file to my virtual vet card. Thanks to John, I think I've got it and while I wait to get out of work and home to actually ride I'll practice with the first mile that I ride out of my property. I promise to ride this as soon as I get home, though I may need to get my raingear of of the trailer, since it's now… Continue

My VV Do It Again Ride

My goals on this VVRide are not grand. The horses showed signs of illness when we returned from the Dec30/31 Las Cruces ride. They have been laid-off since thing. Jose was not hit as hard as Rhett. He went through minor nasal discharge and basically fought it off. But he did receive a round of the antibiotic, which knocked all the symptoms back.

So he's been standing around since Jan 1 - basically ok, but compromised and baby sitting Rhett on the road to his recovery.

So the… Continue

Chocolate for Breakfast

Chocolate.. it's what's for breakfast... Preceded by housekeeping and just before we head out for horsekeeping, including worming, trailer loading practice and natch riding. it's plum toasty here today... 38 degrees. Can you say "tee shirt" :)

yes, I'm one of those sly and innocent individuals who adds chocolate chips to pancakes and says, Dark chocolate is full of antioxidants,

right? [insert wide-eyed half smile here] And, Yep. With chocolate

You Might Just be an Endurance Rider

Cricket's Home!

I moved Cricket to his new barn on Sunday between snow storms. It was a pretty big gamble with the roads, but luckily, they were clear and despite some strong winds, we made it back safely. He settled in immediately, which surprised me since I had so many people telling me he'd be a maniac for a couple weeks whenever we went anywhere new. I really think having him turned out and on grass hay again is making a huge difference, but he took the whole move in such stride it's almost as if he knew… Continue

My horse is SOMEWHERE under all that mud

My horse IS under all that mud, somewhere. I know she is, because sometimes a chunk of mud breaks off and it's got brown hair stuck to it. And I'm pretty sure that Fiddle is, uh, brown.

We have a lesson planned for this week with a new instructor, and she'll get shoes next week. Then we'll really be smokin'. Okay, not really.

The goal this year is to have…
