The basic idea behind interval training is to enable the horse to experience more intense work over several short periods of activity than would be possible if the work was carried out in one block. So the horse is given periods of activity interspaced with rest periods, and each period of activity can vary from easy aerobic exercise to high-intensity, mostly anaerobic exercise.

My little donkey, D. Weed, is becoming a useful member of the family.
He's picking up hand & leg cues from the ground very well.
I spooned him today for the first time. (Laid across the saddle.) He didn't mind much at all. He even moved around some, no problems.…

Well on a whim I decided to go to Chicken Chase. This ride is a 15 hour drive from us. After talking to my good friend Roxi I just couldn't let this ride go un-done :) She had a horse for me to ride so I got my junior (who isn't a junior anymore, she's now 16) to ride Magic. I've been putting a lot of time into conditioning Magic and I really felt confident she would do well. After arriving on Thursday night around 9pm we quickly set up, putting Magic on her Hi Tie with lots of hay and water… Continue

Mary and I had a wonderful ride yesterday about 10 miles. However she pullled a musle in her back. I think she will be ok in a day or two. Continue

I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else before....
If you are in a relationship and split up....
and that person takes all of your 100 mile buckles and refuses to give them back?
....and for that matter all of your personal posessions!
What do you think their motive is?

Cheshire CTR is held near Unionville, Pa. Just west of Philadelphia. Awesome, hunter/jumper country. Beautiful rolling hills, old-money type of farms. Big stone homes and stables. Makes me wish I lived there too. Just to have those hills to condition on would be awesome.
Anyways, I traveled the 2 hours and 20 minutes south from my home, with Saturn loaded on the trailer. I don't have an LQ trailer, or even a camper for my truck. I was sleeping in my truck for this ride. I left on Saturday… Continue

Showed up on Friday evening and listened to Ride Management give almost a 45 minute diatribe of the trail....They also mentioned that there were cattle that were taking down ribbons and that the weather had been increment...so they reassured us that there was plenty of dolmite or flour on the trail to mark the direction to go....
Potato and I started off in front and pretty much left the rest of the pack....
We weren't going fast, just a nice steady trot...like normal.
It was… Continue

My daughter and I had a wonderful time at the Git-R-Done ride on April11th. Brianna finished in 12th place and I finished in 13th. Not to shabby for my Junior rider :>). The ride management and volunteers did a fantastic job with this ride. This was my daughter's 2nd. endurance ride and she said she had so much fun. We had a great time looking for blue plastic Kiddie Pools randomly scattered throughout the desert( desert-treasure). There was plenty of food and water at all stops along the… Continue

A beautiful spring day, and despite all the rain we've had (and the resulting muddy trails...) I got to join one of my riding buddies for a stroll through the woods on Saturday. Here in SE Illinois, the wildflowers are peeking up, and it won't be long before teh redbuds and dogwoods will be blooming - yea!
Here is a pic of my 3 yr old mare, Huley,… Continue

Two days at Eagle Ranch. Plenty of mud and rocks on trail. Came off my horse AGAIN. (Not her fault this time.) You would think it was a horrible weekend, however... you could not have marked a trail as well as this one was marked. Ride management was great. Most of my ride camp friends were there, even though we did not get to socialize much due to the weather. But the truely great thing about this weekend was that Annabelle and I did our very first 50. She was great and placed 9th. Then Sunday… Continue

Well this MN winter just keeps on keepin on...no end in site and its already April. I've been able to ride some but not nearly as much as years past :( Even so, I am planning to go to Chicken Chase April 17 18 19. I really think Magic will be fine, she has been doing this long enough now that as long as I ride slow and smart we will finally have our 1000 AERC Endurance miles, whoo hooo!! We got 18" of snow this week so plans are sketchy about how much riding I will get in from now until then. I… Continue
