Training Ivan to be Great! June 2008

June 2, 2008:

We just worked on horsey feet all weekend. Kazi is sporting her new front feet and has been told she has to exercise to

build up her circulation. So today we ran her, Daisy and Ivan around

the arena. Poor Daisy cannot keep up with the two Arabs and got to stop

the soonest. Kazi has a limp, but not too bad, so she had to keep on

trotting and cantering, whichever she wanted to do. Ivan flew. Before

we let him into the arena, he…

Ruza 2008 Endurance Ride

We hosted CEN* 40 km & CEN** 80 km Endurance Events at our stable on 17-18 May. It was a great debut for us as event organizers. Our "donchaks" (Predlog, Zeiger, Zavitok) took 3rd, 4th and 5th place on 80 km. Victory was not our goal for this time. The main goal was to prove that we can organize an endurance event very well. So we give first places to our guest competitors. Our route has 3 river fords - the only endurance route in Central Russia with fords!

There was 13…

Mares Eat Oats and Other Lessons

Ah yes the things we have learned and continue to learn from our horses. No matter how long you have been around horses, you will never "know it

all". True, there are people who are very knowledgeable and some might

consider them experts. No matter how much you know, you will always

find a horse (and a human) that will teach you something new.

And it begins....

After a 17 year hiatus from endurance, its time to start again. I've never been without horses or without a prospect during what has felt like forever, but life just got in the way.

I rode my first 50 miler in 1970 and it was another 10 or so years before I got around to doing another one. I've had memberships with a number of distance riding groups for many years but just couldn't pull off getting to a ride. Well now its time to put some of those other responsibilities on the back…

Discovering the Horse(Wo)man Within

I didnt grow up around horses... the only thing I knew from horses was watching The Kentucky Derby each May and reading Flicka. Things changed quickly when we got here.

Gazi continues to bring out the horsewoman within struggling to get out... I'm still getting used to the "Arabian" constitution. in the continuing quest for focus, balance (can you say stay upright)"…
