Advice needed and muchly appriciated!!!

We are new to the breeding business and so any advice would definitely be appriciated. I am also a new rider to the endurance scene. I have conditioned them for others and of course I spent many an hour in the saddle with my mares and one gelding. I've been riding all my life mainly on Mustangs and Arabs. My uncle was a mustang man for 40 years rounding them up in eastern Oregon so obtaining a horse was never a problem. Just because I am a very experienced rider doesn't mean I know anything…

Great horse, horrible neighbors..

I live in the middle of the woods, so there isn't really any space to ride on my property. When I want to ride for any length my only option is to take the horses out on the back roads around my house. Now this wouldn't be a problem except for that the most recent time I have ridden out there was the first real ride outside of the yard for my young stallion. Everything was going well, he is a dream to ride and was ripping up the trail like we do it every day, crossing water etc like an old…

5 Awesome tips on Horse Riding

1. Watch Others: Watching other riders can help you differentiate between good and bad posture. Humans are usually visual learners and you'd be surprised how much you can learn by watching good riders at work. Make an effort to attend a riding lesson and listen to what the riding instructor is saying, you can pick up…

Horseware

Hi all,

I got a new horse (yea), and need some clothes for her. My big mare uses a Big D blanket, and I like the fit of it. But, she weights 1100 pounds, and wears an 82. My new girl is a purebred arab. Could anyone please comment on what your thoughts are as far as brands of blankets for arab's?

New Member

Hi everyone!
I am new to endurance riding, but I am already addicted! Even bought a new truck so that I can get to rides w/o breaking down. I do not have an arabian, I know that physiologically they are best for competitive endurance. My mare is an Appaloosa, lots of classic breeding, mixed with lots of running quarter horse. I would love to hear from members who also ride non-arabians. Pictures to follow...

Ozark Trail Ride (rambling) Recap - the 5 yr old finishes her first ride! Part I

We finally did it - after a several year hiatus, and buying my (much too young for me) next endurance prospect, DB Hula Mayya, and waiting for her to mature and finish her training, we bit the bullet and entered and FINISHED our first endurance (well, just Limited Distance) ride. Eep! How did this happen?

Of course I didn't do…

Losing a great horse

Friends, I just can't face talking anymore on the phone right now and so I am sharing with you what happened to my beloved 11 year old gelding Jack. This is the note I sent to his breeder in Utah and it will save me from breaking down while I try to tell you about it on the phone or in person. I know, as you do, that time heals and someday I'll only remember the great memories this fine animal gave to me, Keith and many of our friends. Right now, I am… Continue

The Big Horn 100 2010-And Beyond-by Lucky 6 Nellie

Most years in July, Mom hauls me over to the Big Horn 100 in Shell, WY. This year was no exception. It would be my first endurance ride of the season like it was last year. Mom conditions me enough right here at home, I felt GREAT this year. Ready to roll! I even had company this year as Monty came along for some trail riding in the rockies after.

We woke Mom up just before 3 am demanding more hay. She was kind enough to oblige. (I can make her do all sorts of stuff to spoil me once… Continue

Equine Humor

Equine humor

Do horses have a sense of humor? If they did, then wouldn't it be logical to assume that they have other human emotions? Empathy, frustration, anger, disappointment, joy? Some might say that I am anthropomorphizing. Putting my own uniquely human feelings upon an animal incapable of the same. That may be true, but there are some "emotions" that can be categorized as instinct. How many of us have been on a horse that is filled with fear? How about, excitement or frustration? I… Continue

First REAL 50 mile Endurance Ride! Broxton Bridge 2010

After riding a handful of 25s, and 35s it was time to move up. I came in 9th place out of 70 something riders about a month ago so it was time.

Gunner and I are ready after a year of training and conditioning. I had a few ups and downs, like saddle fitting and finding a bit. I was using a short-s hackamore but really found I need to bump it up stronger for the first loop. However, I wasn't able to use my new myler combo bit because my…
