So, the end of April has brought me 3 out of 4 lame equines. Boo hoo :o( Denny got caught up in some wire & tore up his pastern pretty badly--lame right front. Monty slipped in the mud & apparently pulled his shoulder (couldn't find the abscess that I was hoping for) --lame left front. Finally, Noodle got kicked in the tendon, swelling/heat the 1st night. Cold hose & poultice had it looking & feeling good in the morning, except for that little lump & scratch at the impact zone--not lame at all. But, I did try riding her a few days later & the heat/swelling came back, so she is off for at least a month.
May is here & Denny is sound again. Monty was just about better when he ran into something & cut his upper leg (same leg). Now he is really lame. Poor guy.
With Nellie being the only one left for me to ride to gather every day, she's been stuck in the pen every night, not getting her fair share of grass time. I decided it's time to crack down & get Weed broke. So, today, he had his first ride. It went very well. Maybe he'll be ready to gather in a couple 2-3 weeks. Meanwhile, Denny will have to fill the void & give Nellie a night out. Only problem is that to keep Denny in the lot I'll have to keep Ripley in too & Monty needs some relief from Weed picking on him so he'll be in too.
