Endurance and Long Distance Equine Disciplines

I taught Ozzy to lay down to discourage his old temper tantrums, which consisted of him throwing himself on the ground every time he disliked something that was asked of him. The rope is being used as an aid here because I had a bad ankle. He willingly does this without its use.

I got Ozzy started by teaching him to bow. It was sort of an elaborate carrot stretch, which turned into a long, deep bow. I had him hold that for a LONG time and he eventually realized that it was much easier on his muscles just to lie down. The rest was pie. Good luck to you and Ivan! I hope to hear that you're successful in the future :)

That is a wonderful skill! Coincidentally, I am just now teaching the first step of this same trick to Ivan. I have him picking up his foot when I tap it with my toe and will eventually hope to be able to get on him while he is lying down, too. He is a short horse, but I am a short person. I want to be able to get on him anywhere!
Great video!! It will help me with Ivan. Thanks! ........Diane Coleman
