The Leatherwood Ride is about 21/2 hrs away in NC. Lenior area. But it is a billy goat ride. I'm doing the same as you and taking it easy. I'd had to change my mare's diet. She was going thru some low fuel times so now she is giving me a fit about a high fat not sugary (sweet feed) diet. Whole oats and Whole corn, rice bran, flax seed etc. She's like a kid on sugar. Excited one minute then slow walking the next. I started noticing it at Asheville last fall. She took 20th but she
was tired. She normally gives me everything she got. But I'm starting this mare slower than the last. I ruined the last mare I top ten alot with. She loved to run and show off to people watching her...LOL I have to tell you the story about Faith Connelly's group and Leatherwood some time. It was one of those "Woman from Snowy River Moments". Well I hope to see you at Asheville this Spring anyway. Kaye

Hey Kaye,
I had a good time a Lizard Run. I rode our new little guy and took it slow and easy. My friends had a really tough weekend at Sandhills, one had to put her horse down the day before and another's horse tore his Check Ligament. I'm glad I didn't go. I don't think I'm going to make the Pyramid, Since my horse colicked I haven't really gotten him back out and about, so I'm not planning on going far from home. But, I'll let you know...

I don't think the average Endurance Rider has IV supplies at hand.
Nor do most have IV drugs on hand. I personally do have Bute paste
now. Nearly every Endurance Rider I know has a first aid kit at some
level or another.

Bare necessities for me are: Vet Wrap, ice wraps, bandage (usually a
kotex) for bleeding, polo wraps. All of this I can carry on the
saddle have in the trailer.
