Newsflash: Mapquest spells LaFayette: La Fayette. If you mapquest, put the space in. I've e-mailed them so if they change it check back the proper way.

This is the home page for the Longstreet's Charge Endurance Ride. This year it will make it's return to the schedule May 24, 2008. The Longstreet's Charge ride was run in the late 90's and early 2000 by the Chattanooga Arabian Horse Club and had some loyal fans who loved the wilderness flavor of the course, but in 2002 the Pigeon Mtn. WMA lost its right of way in to the top of the mountain which resulted in years of lawsuits and the cancelation of the ride.

The lawsuit has finally been settled and a new paved road built in to the vet check area which was previously only served by a rugged dirt and gravel road. All systems are "GO" and we are happy to be back.

The ride will be under "somewhat new" management in that the previous sponsor, The Chattanooga Arabian Horse Club" has disbanded. However, manager Angie McGhee and co-manager Joe Harris are both previous Longstreet Charge managers and we plan to keep the ride much like the previous competitors remember it.

A guided tour of loop 1 & 4

The trail begins just behind camp on a wide dirt road. The first mile is a gradual climb so be sure & warm up well before the start. The next 1/2 mile is gradually downhill and it's time to sort out where you want to be in the pack because you're getting ready to enter 3 1/2 miles of single track roller coaster ridges. This is the "Mine Trail". It follows an old railway bed that was used to carry iron out of the many mines you can see along its course. One even cuts all the way through a…

Longstreet's Charge ...nobody said it will be *easy*.

I just went out and pre-rode some of the trail we seldom ride and imagined what everyone will think about the Longstreet's Charge Endurance Ride. At a time when I almost have an allergic reaction every time I read about an obscenely fast *race* over a groomed course, where a rider on a horse trained by others is followed by a traffic jam of support vehicles telling them what to do and when to do it, then proclaiming themselves the "Best in the World", I have the urge to completely reject that…

GREAT RIDE! So glad to see this challenging ride return. Topalina and I were lucky to get the BC in limited distance May 19, 2001. If there is a ride NOT to miss this season, "Longstreet's Charge" is it. Best wishes from Dick & Verna Gould

I don't think the average Endurance Rider has IV supplies at hand.
Nor do most have IV drugs on hand. I personally do have Bute paste
now. Nearly every Endurance Rider I know has a first aid kit at some
level or another.

Bare necessities for me are: Vet Wrap, ice wraps, bandage (usually a
kotex) for bleeding, polo wraps. All of this I can carry on the
saddle have in the trailer.
