Hi Chris,
Just taking a moment to catch up on life. I think of you often and treasure the time we were able to spend while you were here in March.

Ranch hasn't sold. I am still in a holding pattern. So, I am going to open up a Dude/Horsemanship Program. Maybe I can contract you to do a presentation on Animal Communication!!??? :) Take care sweetie. Hugs.

Thanks for watching the Josephine video. Gosh, it's just not very obvious that they're from Kansas, is it? I laugh every time I watch it. Although the lyrics are a bit confusing--about one of the boys's aunt who succumbed to a life of drug abuse (overdose).

I finally figured out how to check email and I will have to say that you and Teresa are right on when talking to my horsie boys. Thank you for checking in with them and then filling me in. They are so important to me!

I'll be out of the loop for several days. So, I will check in when I get back and hopefully by then we'll get a break in this wintery weather and we can get some miles on the horses under our belts!

In the meantime, I hope you're staying warm...

What's up girlfriend!?!? Looks like we might be getting a little break in the weather this weekend but I won't be here to enjoy it so I hope it holds out through the next week! How are the ribs?

Wow, that's so sad about Dexter. He was left in a cage outside an animal hospital when he was about 3 months old with a note that he was "sick" and they couldn't afford to treat him. Well, he WAS sick after that, had pneumonia. We got him while he was still needing shots and treatment. My husband and I both have medical backgrounds. I'm not sure this is where the nipping, growling thing is coming from. But last year, he was taken by someone while he was on a job with my husband. Long story short, it was a LONG 24 hours and we GOT HIM BACK! I envisioned it and made all my friends and family see it and believe it and well, it was a freaking miracle! A car drove past my husband, stopped at a stop sign, and up popped Dexter in the window! Needless to say, this was traumatic for us and now I wonder if there was physical abuse....

The behavior manifests when someone reaches down to him to touch or pick him up. But he's totally fine if he comes to you. I tell people to ignore him like the Dog Whisperer suggests, he's just a dog not a cutie little baby. But this week he nipped my hay delivery guy who is very sweet and loves Dexter, so this is really bothering me. Sometimes it's just out of the blue. It's a bummer, cause he goes everywhere with me and used to be soo sociable. Thanks for the info and for giving Dexter a little talk. Hope it helps....

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the replys. I'll comment on each one. For Bo, his personality rings true. He's a feisty guy that is too happy and energetic to stop, but I have had to convince him that it's ok to do a little less and I'll still include him in my camping plans. I rode him yesterday on a 3 hour "beers with the girls" ride! We had a lot of laughs and Bo was a show off on the big hills. Today being rushed to leave for work I was very stressed and in a negative mind frame and mentally told myself that I'd better lighten up or I'd have a miserable day, I needed to laugh. Less than a minute later, I turned my head and saw that the corral gate had blown open, I was in the corral, and Bo was out in the driveway and knickered at me and walked back in and over to me to hear me laugh out loud! He's a gem!

Z, well, you nailed her!! She is nothing if not EMPHATIC! When she stamps her foot when she's pissy, it's bam, bam, bam, bam, bam! And she had been getting out for lots of rides and then the weather turned foul and she's been confined and NOT happy! So yeah, I took her out on Saturday and she was really good. I'm glad she's settling down. My friend asked me what happened to the "crazy" mare I had last year, I said, this is her, Z! Big difference in 1 year.

As for Maria Bonita, I'm perplexed as well. I did a good massage for her yesterday and focused on her left shoulder, she did lean into it quite a bit, hopefully it helped. I, too, have never used bran mashes, I've offered them to Bo and Z at rides and they turn there noses up. I'll borrow some from a friend and get some apples (also not something too usual, they prefer carrots!) and we'll see what she thinks. Maybe she's testing me to see if I'm listening? She has taken a turn for the worse, but I hope it's temporary...I'll give her some more love and healing energy and a pep talk and see....

Thanks so much for your insight! If things slow down, you might check out the Jack Russell Terrier, Dexter. He came into my life very unexpectedly and he does have occasional episodes of mistrust, especially men, and he'll growl and nip out of the blue when someone is paying attention to him. Really not good, since I don't know when or if it'll happen. Doesn't EVER do it to me or my closest friends. What's that all about and what can I do or say to him to get over it? I'm about ready to call in the Dog Wisperer....

Bye for now, hope YOU get to go ride, too!

Here's Dexter..

I don't think the average Endurance Rider has IV supplies at hand.
Nor do most have IV drugs on hand. I personally do have Bute paste
now. Nearly every Endurance Rider I know has a first aid kit at some
level or another.

Bare necessities for me are: Vet Wrap, ice wraps, bandage (usually a
kotex) for bleeding, polo wraps. All of this I can carry on the
saddle have in the trailer.
