RC] Sweet Itch

Started this discussion Jun 4

I still swear by my rather tacky sweet itch prevention method - braid an insecticidal ear tag (like they use on cows) in their mane. You can braid one in their tail too. It works wonders and keeps ... Read More »

My VV Do It Again Ride

My goals on this VVRide are not grand. The horses showed signs of illness when we returned from the Dec30/31 Las Cruces ride. They have been laid-off since thing. Jose was not hit as hard as Rhett. He went through minor nasal discharge and basically fought it off. But he did receive a round of the antibiotic, which knocked all the symptoms back.

So he's been standing around since Jan 1 - basically ok, but compromised and baby sitting Rhett on the road to his recovery.

So the V…

My 2008 VVClassic

I started a bit late, but it was on time. I did two loops at Dave & Tracy's Flight Leader Farm. It's a 8.1 mile outAndBack that runs downstream along the west bank of the Rio Grande river. I got to take Rhett out for a fast turn, then followed up with Jose (just) a bit slower.

Then the three loops that made up the trail of the Las Cruces New Years in New Mexico ride. This was a 25 Mile loop, followed by a 15 and then a 10 (The hundreds had done these loops in 15.25.10.25.15.10).…

Finding GE Distances and Converting GoogleEarth->GPS

http://www.emaltd.net/google/gec/utilities/index.asp?l=en

The above GPS utilities will convert .kmz to GPS, find the length of a GE path, and a few other things. It is useful especially to the "HandDrawn" division as it will allow you to easily calculate the distance of one of your hand drawn paths!

My First Loops

Well, I'm in the running now byGolly!!

I just did two loops (well it WAS a repeat); one on Rhett (at speed to try to get him at least breathing hard - it's REALLY flat here) and one on Jose (at @8mph pace). Finished the vet check and have the data BUT - I think I will hold off publishing my vet card BECAUSE...

It turns out HRH is riding the same loop tomorrow (maybe I can get him to enter the VVClassic??:) and I think the SecretService guys would appreciate it if the whole wor…

I guess I'm gonna be a pest as well. lol The link you gave me takes me to my "vet card" but I can't enter any data? I click on the "edit" at the bottom of the page and it tells me im not invited, then it allows me into google docs but all I see is the last VV ride. Just letting you know! Take your time! I'm in no hurry. I already got a good 20 miles from this weekend. :-)

Hi again,
I'm able to get to my vet card, but can't see anybody else's like I could for VV DIA. And I keep getting the message that I am not invited as idianevieira@gmail.com. No rush, just wondering if I'm missing something. It's fun to see everyone's trails.
At 7:13pm on March 1st, 2008, Diane said…
Yup, that's my question too, Kyle. John, could you invite me via idianevieira@gmail.com Maybe it'll get me to the right spreadsheet. All I find is the VV DoItAgain.

How do I add in miles for the current VV ride?

I don't think the average Endurance Rider has IV supplies at hand.
Nor do most have IV drugs on hand. I personally do have Bute paste
now. Nearly every Endurance Rider I know has a first aid kit at some
level or another.

Bare necessities for me are: Vet Wrap, ice wraps, bandage (usually a
kotex) for bleeding, polo wraps. All of this I can carry on the
saddle have in the trailer.
